About
I am a doctoral student at the universities of Göttingen (Germany) and St Andrews (UK). My main interest being the discursive construction of identities, especially in the light of different social, political or historical contexts .
My dissertation project examines the use and effects of family language in nationalist discourse, for example 'fatherland' or 'children of the nation'. The project addresses two larger questions, namely
1) When and how is family language used in nationalist rhetoric or symbols.
2) Which psychological mechanisms underlie their use and the effects thereof on our individual perception of nations and the way we relate to them.
In the broader context of studying nationalism and political discourse, I am furthermore interested in matters of feminist and gender theory, as well as Critical Theory and form-critique. This is to say, the broader context of subjectivity, self- and nationhood within modern society.
